ΥΠΗΡΧΑΝ ΚΑΠΟΤΕ –ποιος δεν το ξέρει;–
τόσοι άγγελοι ψηλά στον ουρανό,
που άλλο πετούμενο εκεί πάνω να σταθεί
ήταν αδύνατο σχεδόν να καταφέρει.
Γι' αυτό και κάποιοι ιθύνοντες
–κατόπιν ικανών συλλογισμών–
το χάος είπαν να ρυθμίσουν
και τάξη να επιβάλουν. Τι αμνήμονες!
μια κι όλως διόλου λησμονήσαν ασφαλώς
πως δεν σηκώνει τέτοιες διευθετήσεις
ο κόσμος των πνευμάτων,
ο κόσμων των ουράνιων ταγμάτων γενικώς.
Έκτοτε οι άγγελοι εξέλιπαν οριστικώς
κι απόμεινε σε μας ο άδειος ουρανός.

ES GAB –wer weiß das nicht?– vor Zeiten
so viele Engel hoch droben im Himmel,
daß all den andern geflügelten Wesen
es fast unmöglich war mitzuhalten.
So daß ein paar Verantwortliche drauf brannten
–nach reiflicher Überlegung–
das Chaos zu sortieren,
und Ordnung zu schaffen – die Ignoranten!
Wohl war ihnen ganz entfallen,
daß solcherlei Eingriff nicht duldet
die Welt der Geister,
die Welt der himmlischen Scharen vor allem.
Seitdem sind die Engel ganz ausgestorben,
und uns ist der Himmel so leer geworden.

IL Y AVAIT autrefois –qui ne le sait pas?–
tant d'anges en haut dans le ciel
que d'autres volatils n'arrivaient presque pas
à rester là-haut.
C'est pourquoi quelques dirigeants
–après beaucoup de réflexion–
ont décidé de régler le chaos
et d'imposer l'ordre – quels oublieux!
Ils avaient tout à fait oublié sans doute
qu'il ne supporte pas de tels arrangements
le monde des esprits,
le monde des ordres célestes en général.
Dès lors les anges ont disparu
et le ciel vide est resté à nous.

kitiems skraiduoliams įsiterpti
buvo nepaprastai sunku.
Dėl to kažkokie valdovai
viską apskaičiavę uoliai
nutarė chaosą užbaigti
įvesti tvarką – užmaršuoliai!
Be abejo jie visiškai pamiršo
kad ne dangaus pasauliui
ne dangaus įstatymų pasauliui
paklusti tvarkos vajui.
Taigi angelai suvisam išnyko
ir tuščią dangų mums paliko.

IN OLDEN TIMES - but surely we all know? -
There were so many angels in the sky
That all the other celestial hosts
Found it nigh impossible to get by.
This is why the powers that be
After much protracted contemplation
Ached to regulate the anarchy
Impose some order - oh the obfuscation!
It was far beyond their giddy wits
To conceive that such intrusions are most
Intolerable in the world of spirits
Especially in the realm of heavenly hosts.
Since then there are no angels left to fly
And what remains is naught but empty sky.

THERE WERE once –who does not know it?–
so many angels up in the sky
that for any other celestial being
it was almost impossible to fly.
That's why the authorities
–after adequate considerations–
the chaos intended to arrange
and order to enforce – how unmindful!
Since they certainly forgot
that such arrangements can not
be made in the world of the spirits,
in the world of the heavenly battalions.
Since then there is no angel left to fly
and what remained to us is just the empty sky.
